The technique behind it is identical to flexographic printing, but with a metallic ribbon pressed on the label surface by a rotating printing plate. This is commonly known as "foiling".

Foil blocking makes products more memorable using a light reflective print (not a flat colour). Instead, attention is focused on the shape of the metallic print for a breif but extended period of time because it makes the brain "double check".
